VTalent Year Recruitment Fair

V Talent Year

Want to work with children and young people – but need to get a foot on the ladder? Read on…

What's the VTalent Year Recruitment Fair?

v is a national charity which tries to get more young people volunteering. Oxfordshire has been given some money by v to set up a project called VTalentYear. It will offer 15 young people a year a full time placement working in Children, Young People and Families services. The VTalent Year Recruitment Fair  (pdf, 184 KB) is to attract potential volunteers to the project.

There are 15 different placements you might be interested in, e.g. working with disabled children, children in care, young people out of school, asylum seeking children, working to support children and young people to get their views heard.

What would I do?

There would be two parts to your placement:

  • you’d be trained in Children’s Rights and do a project on this
  • you’d work within a team and do a specific project agreed by you and your manager – depending on your interests and the work of the team

What training would I get?

You’d get lots of training and would be supported to gain a Level 2 qualification by the end of the year. To begin with, you’ll go on a week residential induction with other volunteers on v projects, then there’ll
be an induction week, training in Children’s Rights and ongoing training throughout your placement.

What would I get at the end?

You’d get a year’s full time (30 hours per week) work experience, a Level 2 qualification, and support to get into further employment, training or education at the end. You’d also get £1,500 if you complete this to go towards further training/education.

Do I get paid/expenses?

As a full time volunteer, you can't claim Job Seekers Allowance but you can claim a basic living allowance and expenses including travel. You'll also be able to claim Housing Benefit.

When does it start?

The VTalent Year Recruitment Training Fair is on 14th December. If you join up, the residential induction will start in March 2010 for a week. The placement will run from April 2010 for 44 weeks. It includes some study breaks too.
