Are you listening to me? Oxfordshire's babies speak for themselves

image of three babies

Everyday voices and stories of Oxfordshire’s babies and toddlers as observed by professionals

Oxfordshire babies tell their story of life at nursery through observations of some of the most experienced and well-qualified manages of day nurseries

The observations focus around 7 messages:

1. Please treat me with respect, don’t do things to me without helping me to understand what is coming next

2. Please talk to me and get to know me and my family. Please be less busy – stay and play

3. I need one person to be close to who listens to me and keeps me safe and included

4. I like spaces so I can move freely or be tranquil and I like places that are busy and bustling with my friends

5. I am interested in what I am busy doing, try not to interrupt me, please be interested in the things I am doing

6. Please give me experiences to challenge me

7. I have lots of ways of communicating – listen and watch
