Stanford in the Vale School Council
Pupils' voice creates positive changes at Stanford in the Vale Primary School
What has your group been created for?
The School Council has been created to help to improve our school by the children in the classes. We meet to discuss any issues and matters to do with the school and to be the link between the pupils and the Head Teacher
How has it made a difference?
The School Council asked for some new benches to create a quiet area where we can sit quietly, play board games, read or draw pictures. In the school holidays we know that all the toilets are going to be modernised. Our Head Teacher was unaware of the state of them until we raised it at a meeting. We chose new playground equipment for the pupils to play with.
What do you do in your group?
In the group this year we have met the Head Teacher on a regular basis. We have also met the Healthy Schools co-ordinator, we have now gained this award. We met the OFSTED and SIAS inspectors to help our school gain an Outstanding mark for Personal, Social Health Education.
How do you make sure that every child or young person is heard?
At the meeting everybody gets a chance to speak. Each class has 2 representatives, one boy, one girl. After the meeting the reps explain what has happened at the meeting to their classes and teacher then their comments are reported back at the next meeting.
