Disabled voices speak out on employment rights

On Monday 30 March 2009, three OYE! members went to the Central Methodist Hall, London, to lead a workshop on money management for disabled children and young people.

What happened?

The workshop was part of a conference called Right on the Money. We were chosen by the National Youth Agency, Barclays and the Financial Services Authority to host this workshop because of our skill and enthusiasm.

During the workshop we asked senior executives who work for the government and voluntary organisations to make sure that disabled people:

  • get their free bus passes
  • have supported employment opportunities

We also asked that all those who work in employment centres:

  • are confident to work with disabled people, so that there aren’t big queues for us to get job opportunities

Here’s our full report from the conference (pdf format, 127kb) which will be widely circulated and will influence local as well as national decision makers.
