UK Youth Parliament

Member of Youth Parliament

Can you see yourself taking the issues of Oxfordshire children and young people to no 10?

UK Youth Parliament makes change happen. Why not get involved?

Read the list of current UKYP Candidates below, and find out more about how to nominate yourself for the UK Youth Parliament Elections on 8th November 2010.

The UK Youth Parliament supports young people who become Members of Youth Parliament and represent the views of young people in their area. Young people between 11 - 18 years can stand to be elected to become a Member of Youth Parliament (MYP) or a Deputy. Once elected, MYPs work with their MPs, councilors, school and youth councils and peer group members on the issues of greatest concern to their constituents.

An example of change made by UKYP: on Thursday 5th November 2009, as a result of campaigning by young people from UKYP, Government announced that the parental right to withdraw a child from Sex and Relationships Education (SRE) lessons will be removed from the age of 15. This means that every young person will get at least one year of good SRE before leaving school.
