What's changed

U said (Children and Young People, Parents and Carers)...We Did

Your feedback:

"Being in UKYP has changed my life completely. I get more involved in things and see a lot of things in a different light. It has also shaped my career path. I developed a lot of skills through UKYP, my public speaking has improved a lot and now I can give talks to thousands of people and not be scared." (UKYP member Nathan)

"Thank you for involving R. It really takes him out to mix with others without any problem. As he gets older he needs to mix with his peers in a good manner and safe way, as he finds it difficult to mix with others. Look forward to hearing from you for the next meetings." R's parents

"Thank you for inviting me to these meetings, it is so interesting and I love being part of it. You all really listen and I feel like I am making a change for young parents that are on their own." (Parent from a Local Area Trust Board)

"The Participation and Play team have done a good job with these young people. They question in a way that comes completely from a service receiver perspective, but they manage to do that on behalf of all service users, not just their own personal experience. They challenge us as professionals to think differently and to question our own judgements in a way that would not occur if they were not with us." (PCT Lead in response to an Evaluation of Involving Children and Young People in Recruitment)

What's Changed?

U said...having one to one support and being with adults who know how to manage behaviour were really important to you attending school. We Did...With the Back on Track and 999 programmes, we now provide more one to one and small group support, and give one to one support before and after.

U said...you wanted more therapy appointments to be given to children and young people with disabilities in school settings. We Did... We are making sure this is included in new contracts for services through the recommissing process.

U said...You wanted a nature garden, fishing, BMX track and tunnels, an allotment garden, a graffiti wall, hills, trees for climbing and tree houses, bike ramps and water play in your new play area design for Barton. We Did...We included all these in our design of the new play area.

U said... parents of disabled children wanted to have voice on governing bodies where children are in bases at mainstream schools. We Did... Governor services are now writing to all governing bodies with guidance about inviting these parents to be associate members.

U said... you wanted electronic and text voting in the UKYP 2010 elections. We Did...Funding was secured and the 2010 elections were held electronically.
