Join Oxfordshire's new Sounding Board
Oxfordshire Sounding Board needs you!
What do they do?
Listen to your views on important topics affecting children and young people, like: Substance Misuse, Sleep, Poverty, Self Harm, Learning in the 21st Century. The next topic which you'll dicuss if you join is: Dads - what's important in a Dad, what's your Dad's role in your own life, what works well and what could be better?
The Sounding Board is a forum of children and young people aged 7 – 21 (25 in special circumstances), who meet with the people who make decisions about things in Oxfordshire. Children and young people can speak directly to the County Councillor for Children and Young People, The Director of Children, Young People & Family Services, senior people in the County Council and key people working in the areas being discussed by the Sounding Board. They find out how to improve services for children and young people, like how to stop bullying, or how to support disabled children and young people better. At the start of each meeting a lead person will tell everyone what changes have been made since the last Sounding Board.
We involve children and young people from lots of circumstances, cultures, abilities and geographical areas across the county. We have some new and some old members each year.
The lead people feed back to the Sounding Board at every session on what has been done since they last met.
About the role
If you join the Sounding Board you will meet 8 times a year to discuss and give your views on an important topic: four times with leaders and four times just with children and young people to plan the meetings. We also have a get-together at the beginning to get to know everyone, and a thank you celebration at the end of your term of office to thank everyone. The meetings are fun and informal – but have important things to discuss too! We ask everyone to stay for 1 year, but it’s great if you choose to stay for 2 years!
Travel
We provide transport, hold safe and sound meetings and always provide food and FUN.
Payment
The Sounding Board is voluntary. You will gain an AQA qualification and receive a special unique folder at end of your term.
