The Winter Ball 2010

Winter Ball Planning Group

The Winter Ball 2010 saw a great turnout including children and young people from 26 projects all over Oxfordshire, the Chairman of Oxford United Football Club, and the High Sheriff of Oxfordshire.

The Winter Ball 2010 Steering Group, pictured above, were Julian, Sydney, Helen, Sam, Caius, Harry, Craig and Karim. Together they planned and fundraised for the event which took place at the Oxford Conference Centre on 18th February. Young people's celebration events are a great  way to publicise the achievements and positive contributions that children and  young people make to society and to their local communities, often through their involvement with projects working across Oxfordshire. This year 200 children, young people and adults from 26 projects came to the Winter Ball.

Kelvin Thomas, the Chairman of Oxford United, presented awards, and the High Sheriff of Oxfordshire Richard Dick introduced the ceremony, which was compered by a member of the Winter Ball Young People's Steering Group and an adult worker from Oxfordshire County Council's Participation and Play Team.

The Oxford Mail also turned up to photograph the event, and ran an article about it (.pdf format, 2MB), featuring Base 33's RUSH Girls Football Team, who were guests at the Ball.

Read the report (pdf format, 415KB), and watch this space for a gallery of photographs taken by young photographer Charles Powell.
