Cyberbullying conference: success!
Children and young people from the Oxfordshire Anti-Bullying Week Steering Group carried out a cyberbullying conference on 16th November 2009 at Kassam Stadium to launch Anti-Buylling Week.
Schools and other youth settings are reporting cyberbullying which is having a serious impact on young people and the adults supporting them. The Anti-Bullying Week Steering Group carried out a cyberbullying conference on 16th November 2009 at Kassam Stadium. Young people and adults from across Oxfordshire came together; it was a fantastic opportunity for everyone to learn more about how to tackle this issue in their schools and settings:
The conference was jointly organized by Anti-Bullying and the Healthy Oxfordshire Schools Team, and was hosted by pupils from Stockham Primary School, Chipping Norton School, Matthew Arnold School and Iffley Mead School:
"Great for getting together for combating cyberbullying" (Secondary-age young person)
"The young people were fantastic, great young speakers" (Adult)
"Very well prepared and everyone was involved. Extremely informative!" (Secondary-age young person)
Workshops were led by Cybermentors and Childnet International, and the conference was opened by the Chief Constable of Thames Valley Police and the Chief Fire Officer. A variety of resources were used to highlight the importance and raise awareness of the issue. The day concluded with everyone completing a checklist and action plan so that they could return to their setting with practical ways to respond to cyberbullying.
“A good day, heightening awareness where staff think that there isn't a problem in their school. Food for thought and action!” (Teacher)
“Good thing to do to beat out cyberbullying” (Primary-age young person)
“A really interesting and well arranged day. It was excellent to have primary and secondary school together at points so both groups could learn from each other. A really worthwhile day.” (Teacher)
