Children and Young People's Survey 2009
'Your Voice 2009' was a survey of nearly 5,000 children and young people (C&YP) in over 50 primary, secondary and special schools and colleges of further education across Oxfordshire. Reports of the results are availabe here to download.
The survey 'Your Voice 2009' was commissioned by the Oxfordshire Children and Young People’s Trust, and the research was conducted by the market research company Childwise. 'Your Voice 2009' helps to measure progress against targets in the Children and Young People’s Plan about health, safety, enjoying and achieving, economic well being, and making a positive contribution.
Two booster surveys made sure that profoundly disabled C&YP and those outside the mainstream school system also took part.
The findings have been compared (pdf, 53.9 KB) with a similar survey from 2007 and with the national TellUs3 Survey 2008. There are areas of big improvements, and other areas which we need to address. Key findings include:
- More C&YP feel they are healthy and are eating more healthily, but more of them are smoking than in 2007
- C&YP report feeling schools listen to them less than in 2007, and they know less about their local councils
- Very high numbers of C&YP are volunteering, and more would like to
- More C&YP feel safe at school, enjoy school more, and think teaching is good, but more of them also say they have been bullied both in and out of school
There is a wealth of detailed information in the results of this survey, especially about vulnerable groups. Reports are available at county, district and northern/city/southern area levels. Participating schools have received their individualized reports. The full data set will shortly be available to find out more about the results.
