What's changed
What U said (Children and Young People) What We've Done (Adults)
U Said (Children & Young People) set up a mentoring scheme for young people who’ve been ‘in trouble’ to support younger young people and help prevent them getting into trouble…
What we’ve done (Adults) there are several schemes running now in Oxford City doing this now – in Barton, and at Cheney and Oxford Academy schools
U said let's find out what difference the Bullying...What's New? (Anti-Bullying Conference 2007) made in the schools that attended...
We've supported you to apply for funding, design a survey so you can work out what the changes have been
U said we want to be involved in more staff recruitments, especially of senior staff
We've trained about 20 8-19 year olds and facilitated you to be part of lots of recruitments, including for the Director of the OCC Children, Young People and Families and Head of Service posts
U said we want to run Takeover Day 2007... you wrote letters to all schools in the county, encouraged everyone to get involved, acted as roving reporters on the day including being on BBC Radio Oxford and the BBC South Politics Show. It was incredibly successful and now you’ve planned Takeover Day 2008
U said u wanted to create better information for children and young people in health settings... so you did, in the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service and the Children’s Hospital
U said u wanted to be more involved in deciding what services are ‘bought’ for children and young people… you’ve been involved in 2 major commissioning projects: one for the Children’s Fund (£1m) and one for Connexions (£9m) – and now you’re involved in another for Young Carers service
U said u wanted a website to find out about Children’s Rights…. You’ve been involved from the beginning in designing the new BigVoiceOxfordshire.com website
U said children and young people in care don’t know how to make to make complaints... members of the Children in Care Council are writing to all in care in the county to tell them about their rights and how to complain
U said young pepole need to be at the forefront of sexual health service development
We've supported a project to consult on the service and some of you gave evidence at a Confidential Inquiry on Sexual Health
U said that disabled children and young people need more and different ways to voice their opinions…
We’ve set up a Disability Forum so disabled children and young people will have their own forum as well as joining all the others that happen
U said u wanted feedback on everything that you give your views on…
We try and make sure we do this all the time, an example was a report and a meeting for all children and young people who took part in the JAR (government) inspections
